Philippine Drama ABS-CBN, GMA Network, and TV5

Philippine drama, also referred to as teleserye, teledrama, telenovela, and P-drama, is a melodramatic serialised fiction form that airs on television. Its root words are "tele," which is short for "television," "serye," which is Tagalog for "series," and "drama," which is Latin for "drama."

Although teleseryes have roots in traditional soap operas and telenovelas and share some of their traits, they have developed into a distinct genre that frequently serves as a reflection of the social realism of Pinoy Tambayan Filipinos. Five days a week, teleseryes are broadcast in prime time, with repeats frequently airing on the weekends. They have the highest advertising rates in Philippine television and draw a large audience that crosses gender and age barriers. Depending on its rating, they can last anywhere from three months to a year or even longer.

Timeline

In the early 1960s, the genre was then expanded into television. In 1963, ABS-Hiwaga CBN's sa Bahay na Bato became the country's first TV soap opera. The Radio Serial, which Loida Virina co-wrote and revived in the middle of the 1970s, was also the longest-running serial that lasted for decades. Young Romnick Sarmenta and Beth Bautista, a model and well-known actress in the 1980s, were also made into stars as a result of it. While the GMA dramas are Villa Quintana, which aired from 1995 to 1997 and starred Donna Cruz as Lynette Quintana and Keempee De Leon as Isagani Samonte. Another was Ikaw Na Sana, which aired from 1997 to 1998 and was later made into a movie. It starred Angelu De Leon as Blanca Rosales Perez / Susan Saavedra and Bobby Andrews as Rafael Huico.

The Pangako Sa'yo television series was aired internationally on numerous networks throughout Asia between 2000 and 2002. Gulong ng Palad, which aired from January to May of 2006, starred Kristine Hermosa as Luisa, TJ Trinidad as Carding, and Cherie Gil as Philiomena "Menang" Medel, the dishonest mayor of the town and the series' main antagonist. Rio Locsin played Caridad "Idad" Santos and Andrea del Rosario played Mimi. Through TFC, the series attracted a large international audience. Young actress Eliza Pineda played the title role in the remake of Maria Flordeluna, which ran from February to June 2007. In addition, John Estrada played Gary Alvarado, Eula Valdez played Mary Jo Esperitu, and Albert Martinez played Leo Alicante.

The 93-episode series was named Best Television Series in 2008 by the PMPC Star Awards. The AnnaLiza series remake, which was to star Maja Salvador and Jason Abalos, was put on hold in 2009 but was eventually brought back in 2013 (with child star Andrea Brillantes playing the title role) and has since become the most popular primetime soap opera. After Sa Dulo ng Walang Hanggan in 2001–2003, the family-focused romantic drama Be Careful with my Heart, which ran from July 9, 2012, until November 28, 2014, with a total of 622 episodes, became the longest-running teleserye.
