Fight Life's Battles on MMK with a Laughter

This Saturday, Empoy Marquez performs as a beloved taho vendor among UP students and faculty.

This Saturday (May 4) on "MMK," Empoy Marquez's portrayal of taho vendor Dong Corpuz will demonstrate that not even destitution and his own illness will cause him to give up on his love for his wife and family.

Dong has always persevered in life, even though he was disadvantaged and unable to complete his studies. He started selling taho at the University of the Pinoy Teleserye Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City, where he was well-liked by academics and students for his upbeat personality.

After dating for ten years, Dong, 44, meets Catherine, 22, and they fall in love (Jennica Garcia). Their May–December romance shatters their own families' bonds. Dong fights for their relationship, even adopting Catherine's ex-daughter partner's as his own. His genuine concern for Catherine's family eventually wins him the respect and approval of his wife's family.

To Dong's dismay, Catherine decides to accept an offer to work as a domestic helper in Bahrain. She claimed it would support their finances and enable them to send their other two children to school. After his wife leaves, Dong loses both his physical and emotional strength. Because he misses his better half so much, he becomes quiet and stops being the amusing father he used to be.

His body eventually gives up, and a lung condition is discovered. To ensure that all of their children receive the education he and his wife were unable to receive, Dong pursues the sale of the taho. Their oldest child, Aurain (Heaven Peralejo), persuades his father that she would give up school in order to support the family. She can assist for a while before becoming pregnant.

Despite this, Dong makes his family laugh and saves enough money for the education of his other two intelligent children. Despite being apart, Dong and Catherine share optimism for their family's future.

Alyssa Muhlach, Brenna Garcia, Yesha Camille, and Karen Toyoshima are also featured in the episode. Joan Habana wrote this episode, which is being directed by Paco Sta. Maria.

Don't miss "MMK," ABS-CBN-longest-running drama anthology, every Saturday.
